Sometimes I teach Things

My experience

I began teaching in an ELL classroom during high school. This experience and serving as a member of the Portland (ME) Board of Education instilled in me the importance of education systems and teaching. I developed further as a teacher in college through teaching civics and government classes for Harvard's CIVICS program, leading and preparing curricula for Harvard's First-Year Outdoor Program (FOP), and as a course assistant for USW35: Dilemmas of Equity and Excellence in American K12 Education, one of the most widely acclaimed classes at the college.

My most extensive teaching experience to date was at Breakthrough Cambridge during the summers of 2015 and 2016. During these summers, I implemented curricula, planned daily lessons, managed student behavior, and shouldered other responsibilities of a full-time educator. During my second summer, I served as a member of the program's Advisory Team (A-Team) where I advised fellow teachers and led communication between teachers and full-time staff. Both of these summers were the toughest, but most rewarding of my life, and I look forward to building similar relationships in the future.

My Future: LPS & HTF

I am currently a member of the second cohort of Harvard Teacher Fellows (HTF). This school year, I will begin my residency year of teaching at Leadership Public Schools in Oakland, CA where I'll be teaching algebra 2 and pre-calculus. Through HTF, I aim to promote educational equity through skillful teaching that prioritizes academic rigor, relationship building, and continuous learning. You can read more about HTF here and here.
